Organizations encourage Mercosur-European Union agreement
As the result of more than 25 years of negotiations, both blocs reached agreement on the approval of the treaty, whose signing took place on Saturday, 17 January 2026 in Asunción, Paraguay, according to authorities from both sides.
Previously, 26 European organizations had called for swift ratification and indicated that the agreement would enable greater availability of resources and markets. Among the signatories are the European Footwear Confederation (CEC), EURATEX for apparel and textiles, and COTANCE, the European leather federation.
The statement issued by EURATEX also linked the agreement to bilateral investment, more diversified supply chains and cooperation in sustainable development.
