The company, a joint venture backed by Brazilian and Argentine capital, stated that manufacturing in Argentina is no longer profitable in the face of more open import policies, and production for brands such as NIKE and ADIDAS was therefore transferred to Brazil.
Grupo Dass will permanently close its footwear factory in Eldorado, Misiones, before the end of July due to a lack of orders. The company confirmed that it will pay 100% of the severance compensation due to the 150 employees who remained at the plant.
According to information released, Dass is not leaving Argentina, but is restructuring its operations. It will continue as an importer and distributor of its own brands -Umbro, Fila and Asics-, which will be brought into the country as finished products from its eight factories in Brazil, which employ 60,000 workers.
The company will retain its headquarters in Buenos Aires, as well as its logistics and distribution centers in Coronel Suárez and Cañuelas.
In parallel with the closure of its industrial operations in Argentina, Grupo Dass began operating in Paraguay. There, it has an apparel factory in a joint venture with local group TEXCIN, near Asunción.
