ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 25: Walking on clouds

The Japanese brand takes pride in having achieved the highest level of cushioning and flexibility in its new line of sneakers.

A shoe that is the result of biomechanical research, athletic testing and sustainable methods, designed to provide greater comfort and greater respect for the environment.

To demonstrate this, ASICS Running Category Director Andreas Moll resorted to an undeniable visual test: he dropped an egg in free fall from a height of more than one and a half meters onto a sheet of the new FF Blast™ Plus Eco material used in the sole. The egg remained intact, while the material demonstrated its extraordinary impact-absorption capacity. After the demonstration, the egg was cracked open to prove that it was not hard-boiled, in case any doubts remained.

This demonstration highlighted the properties of the new sole of the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 25, which to date is presented as the most comfortable in the history. According to the brand’s statement, users wearing these sneakers “will feel like they are landing on clouds,” thanks to greater cushioning and a softer step, with a lower environmental impact.

The “secret” lies in the sole, made with the new FF Blast™ Plus Eco material, an ultra-light foam produced with bio-based polymers and materials from renewable sources, such as waste generated during sugarcane processing. The sole is 22 mm thick in the forefoot and 30 mm in the heel, resulting in an 8 mm drop. The sole is 2 mm wider than in previous models to provide greater stability. The curved “rocker” profile facilitates the transition through the foot strike and helps save energy with each step.

On the lower contact surface, the sole features three AHAR™ rubber inserts —one at the front and two at the rear of the heel— specifically positioned to provide greater abrasion resistance and improved grip on surfaces.

Another element contributing to the shoe’s effective comfort is PureGEL, a gel piece fitted inside the heel area which, due to its structure and functionality, provides soft contact with the ground and helps improve toe-off.

The uppers of the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 25 are made from flexible technical fabrics, reinforced in areas subject to greater demands, with a structure that provides advanced ventilation and ensures breathability. The collar is knitted and padded, fitting snugly around the ankle for improved fit. Seventy-five percent of the main upper material is made with recycled content to reduce waste and carbon emissions.

The OrthoLite™ X-55 comfort insole is anatomical and cushioned, and is processed using solution dyeing, which reduces water use by 33% and carbon emissions by 45% compared with conventional dyeing technologies.

The average weight of the men’s sneakers is around 290 g, while the women’s models weigh approximately 255 g.
