Footwear industry calls for action against irregular imports

Tony Di Benedetto, president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Footwear and Components (CAVECAL), called for effective enforcement of tariffs and greater government intervention regarding goods that, according to him, enter the country without meeting the required regulations.
Speaking to Unión Radio, he referred to shipments originating from Brazil, Colombia and China, stating that part of this trade also involves smuggling. In his view, these practices affect local manufacturers and hinder industrial development. He clarified that he is not proposing restrictions on imports, but rather conditions that allow imported products to supplement domestic supply.
