The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) welcomed the temporary pause on tariff increases for Chinese products announced by the U.S. government. The measure was introduced in early August and will remain in effect for 90 days.
The association noted that, although the extension prevents severe consequences for companies, uncertainty has prevailed in the sector since April due to the lack of definitions. In this context, AAFA requested that negotiations with China incorporate a clause preventing the accumulation of tariffs.
Regarding the recent agreement between the United States and the European Union, AAFA and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) welcomed the fact that the reciprocal 15% rate will not be added to existing tariffs, the association reported.
