In a manifesto released in connection with COP30 (Conference on the Environment) in Brazil, related organizations called for support for a set of guidelines regarding leather and its environmental assessment.
Among the requests, they asked for recognition of leather’s status as a material with circular logic and its potential contribution to reducing the climate footprint. They also called for support for life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies that rigorously consider the impact of each material.
The document also included a call to promote “slow fashion” and urged prioritizing renewable natural fibers to reduce the use of supplies derived from fossil fuels, reported the Confederation of National Associations of Tanners of the European Community (COTANCE).
