EUDR removes hides and skins
The exclusion of certain types of hides and skins from the EUDR (deforestation regulation) was made official on September 14, 2026. According to the Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community (COTANCE), the measure corrects a difference in treatment between European and non-EU materials.
During the review, the industry supported its position with technical arguments and warned of potential effects on rural employment and local tanneries. The scope of the regulation will be reassessed in 2030, when the status of leather could also be reviewed again, according to the association.
