Calls to accelerate controls on e-commerce

A business coalition asked the European Union to speed up the application of new measures and obligations for platforms operating with low-value shipments, considering that waiting until 2028 would be too late.
The request is linked to the sharp increase in small packages entering through online purchases, a flow that, according to the document, puts pressure on the operational capacity of customs and promotes unfavorable competition for companies that comply with Community rules.
Thus, they supported the concept of the “deemed importer” and also called for the prior requirement of a legal representative within the bloc, the European Footwear Confederation reported.
