Footwear industry could benefit from higher meat consumption

The expansion of livestock production worldwide has a direct impact on the availability of leather, a key raw material for the footwear industry. According to data from the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2024–2033 report, global meat consumption continues to grow and could reach 28.6 kilos per capita by 2033.
APICCAPS indicated that the increase in supply may contribute to improved material quality and promote stability. In this context, the association’s spokesperson, Paulo Gonçalves, linked this scenario to opportunities for the sector, which works with leather as a by-product of the food industry.
