Footwear exports decline amid adverse conditions

Slower international trade activity is affecting the industry, according to Portuguese Shoes. Against this backdrop, Portuguese footwear exports totaled € 813 million between January and June 2026, representing a year-on-year decline of 2.1%.
Some of the difficulties stemmed from the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, which reduced commercial opportunities in markets of importance to the luxury segment, according to the association's executive director, Paulo Gonçalves. In this context, the industry is also facing higher costs resulting from logistical disruptions.
