An international survey conducted in more than 50 countries and involving 1,531 consumers was carried out by APICCAPS -the Portuguese footwear manufacturers’ association- and the Catholic University of Portugal. The research showed that over the last five years, nearly all respondents adopted more sustainable practices (90.9%), while a minority reported no behavioral changes.
Among the preferences identified, more sustainable footwear ranked as the top priority, followed by reducing consumption, repairing shoes and donating them.
This scenario aligns with the sector’s strategy focused on robotics, automation and sustainability, areas in which APICCAPS is investing to position itself as a global benchmark, according to the association’s president, Luís Onofre.
