Delayed reactivation for the footwear and leather industry

Different factors affect the recovery of the Peruvian industry, in the main producing hubs.

In 2017, the climatic situation caused by the Niño Costero had an impact on this industry; while, in 2020, the pandemic made the context even more difficult. Added to that, the silence on the part of the Government before the request for the commercialization of 4 million pairs of school shoes in the return to classes, paralyzed the recovery of the economy of the footwear and leather sector.

This was stated by Vladimir de la Roca Morán -president of the Chamber of Leather and Footwear Production- in La Libertad, who also stated that the installed capacity is between 20% and 30% in the 1,500 micro and small companies that remained, out of a total of 4,000 before the pandemic.
