Contraband and low prices affect Paraguayan footwear
The Brazilian and Chinese footwear that arrives in the country does not have the proper government inspection, which impacts the footwear industry of Paraguay, as stated by the member of the Association of National Shoemakers -Mario Salinas- at 650 AM radio.
Among the products that enter with little value, ballerinas are priced at US $ 1.55 a pair, a very low amount compared to local leather footwear, which starts from a production cost of between US $ 12 and US $ 18. On the other hand, much counterfeit footwear arrives in the country through smuggling.
These circumstances affect the national industry, which is evidenced by the lack of work and sales, said the shoemaker leaders.
