The "super peso" is affecting sectors such as footwear, leather goods, textiles, apparel, and jewelry, sensitive sectors that are also harmed by the acquisition of products from China via e-commerce.
Regarding this issue, José Abugaber, President of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico (CONCAMIN), stated that they will work to reduce the negative consequences in these industries, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy.
The executive reported that they are considering the idea of implementing a tariff on imports, a request that was made clear to the Ministry of Finance.
This situation has resulted in fewer orders, leading to a start of the year with inactivity in manufacturing units in Guanajuato, Jalisco, Hidalgo, and Puebla, among others.
