Footwear sector reports decline at the end of April
At the close of April 2025, national footwear production totaled 48.8 million pairs, with 36.6 million coming from Guanajuato. Installed capacity in plants reached 52.6% in April, while the industry’s performance showed an annual drop of 5.4%, marking 20 consecutive months of contraction.
In the first quarter, the GDP related to footwear manufacturing fell by 3.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Chamber of the Footwear Industry of the State of Guanajuato (CICEG).
Additionally, by May 2025, 3,790 jobs had been lost in the sector in Guanajuato, reflecting a 7.6% decrease in the footwear production workforce over the past year.
