Limited PRADA edition born after cultural controversy

Finally, the iconic Kolhapuri sandals will be produced through a collaboration between Prada and Indian artisans.

After the criticism received over the sandals shown in Milan and linked to Indian Kolhapuri chappals (sandals), PRADA opened a dialogue with artisans and turned the controversy into a collaboration.

According to company executive Lorenzo Bertelli, a limited edition of 2,000 pairs of sandals will be launched in February 2026, at around €800 (US$930) per pair, available in 40 stores and online.

Combining Italian technology and local craftsmanship, production will be concentrated in Karnataka and Maharashtra (India), in partnership with two state bodies. In addition, a three-year alliance is being prepared, with short stays of Indian staff at the company’s Academy in Italy and training activities in India.
