Ecuador lifts tariff on Colombia

As of June 1, Ecuador eliminated the security levy that imposed a 100% tariff on imports originating in Colombia. The National Customs Service formalized the decision through a resolution issued on May 31.

The measure had begun in January 2026 with a 30% surcharge, which was subsequently increased to 50% and then to 100%, amid criticism from the Ecuadorian Government regarding Colombia’s response to organized crime and drug trafficking, El Universo reported.

At the same time, Colombia enacted Decree 0583, which revoked the resolution imposing tariffs on Ecuadorian products, according to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
