Sector calls for measures on e-commerce

In response to the growing import of footwear, garments and accessories marketed by well-known e-commerce stores, the Colombian Chamber of Apparel, and footwear and leather goods entities called for an official response.
The request included customs oversight, regulation, VAT collection and a base tariff of 40% in accordance with World Trade Organization regulations, reported the entity’s president, Guillermo Criado.
The entry of this merchandise takes place at prices below the local manufacturing cost and without assuming the same labor, tax and production burdens, in a context that, according to the entity, has already led to closures of production units.
