Mexican tariff limits Brazilian footwear exports

The approval by the Mexican Senate on December 10, 2025, of amendments to the General of Import and Export Taxes Law (LIGIE) introduced a 35% tariff on footwear imports. The measure impacts the Brazilian industry, as the country does not have a trade agreement with Mexico.
In this context, ABICALÇADOS stated that it supports the expansion of the Mercosur-Mexico agreement before the government, which does not include footwear. The association indicated that bilateral dialogue should consider appropriate rules of origin for Brazilian products and proceed with caution, given that Mexico combines high production volumes with a strong Asian presence.
