ABICALÇADOS forecasts steeper export decline due to new tariff

The association raised its average estimated decline in footwear exports by the end of 2026 from 3.6% to 7.1%, a difference of 3.5 percentage points compared with its initial estimate.
The revision responds to the new 25% surcharge imposed by the footwear industry's largest export destination —the United States— on Brazilian products, which also changes their position compared with suppliers from other origins.
After the 40% surcharge ended in February, the association had expected the initial decline to be offset to some extent during the second half of the year, thanks to greater stability.
