ABICALÇADOS calls for measures to protect jobs

ABICALÇADOS welcomed the disbursement of R$ 30 billion (more than US$ 5 billion) in new financing lines announced by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), under the Brasil Soberano program.
According to Haroldo Ferreira -Executive President of the footwear association-, these long-term credit lines partially mitigate the effects of the 50% tariff applied by the United States to Brazilian products.
However, he stated that the sector requires specific measures to maintain jobs, noting that it is labor-intensive, with more than 290,000 direct workers. Ferreira warned that without sustained exports to the U.S. market, companies will struggle to meet their financial commitments.
