Argentina leads the purchase of Brazilian materials and components

Uppers, adhesives, soles and synthetics, among the most demanded.

Brazilian suppliers in the stage of consolidating its presence in different Latin American countries.

According to the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Manufactured Goods -ASSINTECAL- the exports of the supplier sector between January and April 2022 reached US$ 137.3 million, 17% more than in the same period of the year 2021.

The main destination in the first four-month period of the year was Argentina, which surpassed China. Materials and components worth US$ 30.5 million were shipped, which represented an increase of 62% more than in the same period of 2021.

“The footwear sector in Argentina has been in full recovery since 2021, when it grew by more than 90%, according to local sources. As the import of Chinese materials and components are more expensive due to freight charges, local manufacturers have set their sights on Brazilian suppliers, who have full capacity to meet this demand”, evaluated the International Market Manager of ASSINTECAL, Luiz Ribas Júnior.

The second destination in the first four-month period was China, with purchases for US$ 27 million, 7% less than in the same period last year. “Possibly, the data is reflecting the growing health restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, especially due to the lockdown in Shanghai, one of the main port cities in China”, he commented.

The origins of exports, in the first four months, by billing were Rio Grande do Sul with US$ 75.3 million (+10%); São Paulo US$ 13.7 million (+30%) and Bahia with US$ 12.5 million (+72%). In all cases, compared to the same period in 2021.

Within the purchases, by amount, chemical products for leather appear first (US$ 62.8 million); uppers (US$ 39 million); adhesives (US$ 14.5 million); soles (US$ 9 million) and synthetic laminates (US$ 5.2 million). Among the items mentioned, those with the highest comparative increase with the same period of 2021, were soles with 65%; uppers 25% and synthetic laminates, also with 25%.
