Italian intrecciato: An icon of luxury
Originally from the Veneto region, intrecciato is an artisanal Italian leather weaving technique, widely recognized for its use in luxury bags, shoes and accessories. The term means “braided” or “interlaced” in Italian, and became known worldwide through its use by leading international fashion brands, such as Bottega Veneta.
It is made entirely by hand, interlacing strips of leather one by one.
The weave is not only decorative; it reinforces the structure of the leather and makes the final product more durable for everyday use.
Different manufactured goods replicate and adapt this weave in various materials and interlacing systems, with greater or lesser degrees of openness, including different colors.
